We have brought both of our dogs to AmericanK9 for training. Our laid-back lab benefitted from just a few lessons with Dani. Or, more to the point, we benefitted from training with Dani because she spent most of her time teaching us how to understand what our pup needs to feel safe and confident.
Our other dog is a very reactive to dogs, people, sounds, etc. She didn't know was and was not a threat and so treated almost all stimuli as a possible threat. Dani helped her gain confidence over just a few sessions over the course of a month. It was clear that she still needed more training that didn't have the capacity to give her. So we sent her to American K9 for 2 weeks of boarding and training from Sarah. Again, phenomenal difference between our pup on Day 1 to today. Thanks to Sarah, she went from a dog who couldn't go anywhere because she freaked out is now able to go to the park, meet new people, and go out into the world. And Sarah has been great at explaining our pup to us. Previously we didn't know how to help her feel safe and confident but now we have a lot of options.
Bottom-line: American k9 is worth every penny and we highly recommend them!!

We met for private training lessons with Rick at American k9. We recently had adopted a Chinese dog meat rescue who had never been in a home before and needed to learn his basic manners. we explain to Rick beforehand our specific concerns and explain to him what we needed to work on and he hit all the marks. The training was not only beneficial to my dog, but to my husband and I as well. We learned techniques we could all stick with. The training was firm, but kind and even included a little playtime at the end for a job Well done. The facility was beautifully maintained and clean and my son love seeing the goats every time. My dog benefit greatly from his time at American k9 and he is more comfortable and confident around people and dogs like now.

I have never written a Google review but I relied heavily on these when making our decision on training; I wanted to add our experience to those in a similar situation! We are a first time dog owning family with 4 kids and one on the way, so we knew that we needed help to have a well trained dog. We ended up doing 4 private sessions with Craig starting as soon as we brought our 9 week old puppy home, leading into a 4 week board and train with Sarah. This is a big investment that we had to think a lot about, but ultimately we are so glad we heeded the advice of seasoned dog owners who said that a well trained dog is priceless and well worth it.
The four private sessions with Craig were really helpful at starting us off on the right foot. In our case, as first time dog owners with a new puppy, it was more about answering our questions and teaching us how to train and interact with our pup for success. Craig is spoken highly of on these reviews and I think it is well deserved!
When it came time for Board & Train I actually was second guessing our decision to leave our pup for four weeks in the hands of others. We were so sad! A few days after he started I had to pick him up to go to the vet and bring him back after. He was so excited to see Sarah when we returned to the kennel that it made me feel a lot better! It's also a beautiful location in Davidsonville. Sarah was very communicative (this seems to be an overall strength of the staff) and from the videos I could see progress with our pup within days. He needed a lot of help with leash manners, crate training, recall, etc. and Sarah seemed to develop a perfect training program for him. As the end of our four weeks approached I was anxious to see if the results would be as evident when we brought him home.
Well, so far he has been an AMAZING boy. Of course he still has his puppy moments but his demeanor is so much calmer, more focused and responsive to us as his owners. He walks BEAUTIFULLY on the leash which was our biggest struggle before, and his recall is another thing which drastically improved. He is really good with greeting people and other dogs, place, down, leave it/drop it, off, and not barking in the crate (a little whining but so much better). The vet, neighbors, etc have all commented on how well behaved he is. It has made me much more confident as his owner, empowered to continue his training at home, and freedom to live our lives without feeling tethered to the dog at all times. Our doggy gets a lot of love but Sarah helped me notice I was enabling bad behavior at times.
The only negative that I encountered was when I asked if we could visit a couple weeks in. Our kids really missed their puppy and wanted to see him. We were told that we couldn't as it interferes with the dog's training and can set them off. I understand that, but the website right now clearly says the opposite and it came off a little misleading.
I am very pleased about the follow up appointments offered at intervals throughout the first year and think that will be a great way to keep us steadfast in continued training. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend AmericanK9 to our friends, the results are evident and they are so knowledgable and professional. I wish they had had another building for boarding or doggy day care for returning customers! Thank you Sarah and Craig for caring for our puppy so well!

We have a 1.5 year old 13lb Tibetian terrier/Bichon mix rescue named Wally. He suffers from extreme reactivity when around other dogs. Wally becomes nervous, agitated, and barks like an attack dog to the point of being uncontrollable. Previous to AmericanK9 we used 2 other dog trainers with either zero or mimimal results. The situation was discouraging to say the least. We heard about AmericanK9 from a friend. His description of the results seemed too good to be true. After contacting AmericanK9 we decided to enroll Wally in their 3 week in house program with fingers crossed. When I say in house program, Wally spent 3 weeks straight at AmericanK9. He did not come home at night. Wally was completely immersed in their environment 24hrs a day for 3 weeks . To say Wally and us were all in would be an under statement. When we picked Wally up after the 3 weeks, the results were nothing short of miraculous. Wally was completely transformed. He had so much more confidence. His obedience to commands was incredible. And most importantly, Wally did not have a melt down when around other dogs. Since coming home, we've gone on many walks encountering other dogs. Wally is calm and obeys our commands. We've gone to Starbucks to sit outside, Wally on command goes to the sit and down positions. He just lays there calm and quiet while dogs at the next table play and do their thing. In short, Wally is now the wonderful incredible dog we always knew he could be. A huge thanks to Sarah at AmericanK9 for transforming Wally. We highly recommend AmericanK9 dog training and would most definitely use them again. Cheers!
Pics: Wally training at AmericanK9 with other dogs (notice no melt down...lol). After 3 weeks of hard work the final graduation pic with us. Yea Wally! Thanks again to Sarah and AmericanK9!

Tabrina was our pup Ozzys trainer. We signed him up for the 2 week board and train at 10 months old while we went on vacation. It was 100% worth it. During the week Tabrina would send us pictures and videos of Ozzy. He was so happy in all of the pictures so I know he was in good hands. It was amazing to see how much he learned in those two weeks. Once we came to get him, we had a sit down with Tabrina to go over what we needed to do to continue his training at home. He’s been the best boy since we’ve brought him home.

Craig was great with both our dog and kids during our in home training sessions. He was always available to answer any questions and gave suggestions about which products he likes best.
